Hey, I’m Mike.
I came to trail running late. I was 30 when I picked up Born To Run and read the whole thing in two days. The morning after I finished it, I went looking for the nearest trail instead of the nearest pavement. That was already many years ago and I haven’t really looked back.
Since then I’ve logged more miles than I can count, on mountains, through forests, along rivers, and around city parks on early mornings when that’s all I had time for. I go wild camping most weekends when I can, usually just a pack, a sleeping bag, a fire, and something worth cooking over it. My idea of a good holiday is a backpack full of gear and a week in the mountains with no fixed itinerary.
Over the years I’ve bought a lot of gear. Some of it was genuinely brilliant. A lot of it was an expensive lesson in reading reviews more carefully. I got tired of gear guides written by people who clearly hadn’t spent much time outdoors, so I started Gear For Trail.
Everything I recommend here is based on real research and real experience. No sponsored content, no gear sent for free in exchange for a good review. Just honest opinions on the stuff that’s actually worth your money.
Welcome to the trail.
– Mike
